As you may well know, there are a number of different types of lock on the market. Perhaps the most common, particularly when it comes to wooden doors, are ‘Yale’ and ‘Chubb’ locks. These are the ones that we fit on a fairly regular basis. It should be easy for you to tell which one you are after.
Yale locks are perhaps the most common for wooden doors, although you can get them on doors made of any material. The local will be mounted right at the top of the door. In most cases, the door will lock automatically when you shut it. Perhaps the biggest tell-tale sign that you have a Yale lock is the fact it will have ‘Yale’ printed on it. However, it is probably worth noting that there are other manufacturers of this style of lock out there so it may not necessarily have this indicator.
A Yale lock comes in two distinct parts. Part one is the round cylinder where the key will go to unlock the door. The second part will go on the inside i.e. the back of the door. This will include a knob, or in some cases a pull or push lever, which will allow the door to become unlocked.
However, just because the lock says Yale, it does not necessarily mean that it is type of lock. Yale is an absolutely huge company and they manufacture a plethora of different products. Not only do they make things for wooden doors, but they also make locks for UPVC doors, shed locks, garage locks, and even burglar alarms and other products designed to keep people out of your property. We can, in most cases at least, source a good proportion of their range for you. We carry the vast majority of their ‘popular locks’ on our vans.
Chubb is the second most popular brand out there. Chubb locks are not as large as a Yale lock. These locks are just a straight keyhole which goes through both sides of the door. There is a small pin in between the two.
The most common type of Chubb lock on the market is a mortice deadlock. Although, again, as a Brighton locksmith, we must stress that just because something is a mortice deadlock, it does not necessarily mean it is a Chubb. In fact, just because it is a Chubb, it does not necessarily mean that it is this type of lock. Chubb is a brand. They sell a plethora of different locks, much in the same way as Yale. Many of the Chubb locks are not even called that any more. Newer locks come under the ASSA ABLOY brand, the new owners of Chubb who did not wish to continue to use the Chubb brand name for a multitude of different reasons.
As with the previous type of lock, we carry a whole host of Chubb locks in stock. All of our locks meet British Standard, or BS for short. This ensures that they are suitable for your insurer. Did you know that the cost of your insurance premiums will actually go down if you use a lock of this type? Yes, you may be paying a little bit more for the lock, but it will translate to a lifetime of savings. The police even recommend the locks that we sell. We suggest you use them. After all; you want to keep people out of your property, right?
Lock Changing on UPVC, Double Glazed, and Composite Doors
We do not just change locks on wooden doors. We can change locks on just about any door, or window for that matter, you can imagine.
The most common lock found on this type of door are EURO cylinders. These locks will require you to either lift the handle whilst turning the key, turn the key a number of times, or simply life the handle in order to lock it. Do note that there are some incredibly poor EURO cylinders on the market nowadays. They also do wear down pretty fast. The poor quality EURO cylinders are NOT made by EURO. If the handle is not fully locking when you push it up i.e. it has a small amount of wiggle room, your handle is not going to be safe and, therefore, will need to be replaced.
As you may well know, EURO cylinders come in a plethora of different styles and colors. We have brass, chrome, and nickel plated locks on our Brighton Locksmith vans. We also keep the vast majority of the popular sizes. This means that when you get in touch with us, we will be more than happy to help you out! Remember, we care about you, so all of the locks that we supply are of an incredibly high quality. We always do our best to keep the price down on them, however.
If you wish to discuss our lock fitting in Brighton, please get in touch with us on 07905 224503 or 0800 043 0243. You can also email us if you wish. We will get back to you as soon as we possibly can.
Lock Outs and Lock Openings
This is another of the more popular services that our Brighton locksmith offers. If you are locked out of your property, business or residential, we will be more than happy to help you get back into it, sooner as opposed to later.
If you need immediate assistance in getting back into your property, you can call us on 07905 224503 or 0800 043 0243. If you wish, you can also drop us an email where we will be able to get back to you as soon as possible.
We are able to help with all lockout and lock in situations. If it is an emergency situation, we will be able to help you out any time of the day. After all, we are a 24 hour Brighton locksmith. We have seen every situation about why people get locked out, so don’t worry. Some people may have left their keys inside, others may have lost them, sometimes the key does not work, and in other cases, the lock will jam up. We have dealt with everything, so we know exactly what to expect when we come to your door. We can get that problem fixed quickly and get you back inside. In most cases, we can be at your property in fifteen to thirty minutes.
We are incredibly good as a Brighton locksmith. In about 90% of cases, we can open your door without any need to replace the lock. The only time the lock will really need to be replaced is if it is jammed, if it is faulty, or if the lock is of a high security. Don’t worry though. We have a lot of experience and will try to ensure that this does not need to happen.
There are absolutely no call centres to deal with when you get in touch with our Brighton locksmith. We will deal with you, your friendly neighbourhood locksmiths, over the telephone. You can count on us to help you out, any time, any place.
We can also help when your lockout is not an emergency situation. For example; if you have lost the key to your back door or your patio or window doors are not working i.e. when it is not vital that you can get in sooner as opposed to later. In many cases, we can even help you get into the slightly more unconventional locks such as a chest of drawers, a filing cabinet, or even an antique desk.
UPVC and Double Glazed Doors and Windows
We can deal with all issues relating to this. All you need to do is call us on 07905 224503 or 0800 043 0243. You can also email us if you wish.
The most common type of problem that we deal with when it comes to this includes broken locks, stuck locks, lost keys, etc. We carry the vast majority of locks that you need in stock, including pad handles, so we can get your problem dealt with sooner as opposed to later.
We can even get hold of the right mechanism for your broken UPVC door or window. If we do not keep it in our van, although it is highly likely that we will do, we can still source it within a very short space of time.
Whilst we always replace your locks with the best quality available, it is worth noting that nothing lasts forever. Locks do tend to get a lot of usage. This means that eventually, normally after about fifteen years, they will start to wear down and they will end up needing to be replaced. This is where you can give us a call. We will supply you with a decent quality lock and you can go another fifteen or so years without needing to worry about your lock breaking again!
Give us a call or drop us an email if you need any assistance. Our Brighton locksmith will be more than happy to help you out.
